Garbage bread is a crowd-pleaser—loaded with cheese, meats, and toppings all baked inside a crusty loaf. It’s perfect for parties, game days, or whenever you want a hearty, flavorful treat!
⸻
Ingredients
• 1 large loaf of Italian or French bread
• 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
• 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
• 1/2 cup pepperoni slices (or any cured meats like salami or ham)
• 1/2 cup cooked sausage or ground beef (optional)
• 1/4 cup green bell pepper, diced
• 1/4 cup onion, diced
• 1/4 cup black olives, sliced
• 1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
• 2 tablespoons butter, melted
• 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
• Optional: red pepper flakes for some heat
⸻
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Prepare the bread:
Slice the loaf lengthwise but don’t cut all the way through—leave about 1 inch intact so the loaf opens like a book.
3. Spread the sauce:
Open the loaf and spread pizza sauce evenly on both halves.
4. Layer the fillings:
Start layering mozzarella, cheddar, pepperoni, cooked sausage (if using), bell peppers, onions, and olives.
5. Close and seal:
Press the bread halves back together gently.
6. Brush with butter:
Brush the outside of the loaf with melted butter and sprinkle Italian seasoning on top.
7. Wrap and bake:
Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Then, unwrap and bake another 10 minutes to get the crust crispy.
8. Slice and serve:
Let cool a few minutes, slice into thick pieces, and serve with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
